Welcome to my website!

I am currently a PhD student in the Department of Biological Systems Engineering (BSE) at Virginia Tech. I graduated from the University of Arkansas with a BS in Biological Engineering (2004) and an MS in Environmental Engineering (2006). My MS research focused on assessing nutrient limitation of periphyton (algae) and identifying the trophic state of streams using a rational index of potential algal production.

Currently at Virginia Tech, I am studying the efficiency of best management practices in nutrient removal from stormwater in the Chesapeake Bay watershed by quantifying assimilative processes of constructed floodplain wetlands. I am an active member of several professional societies including American Water Resources Association (AWRA) and the American Ecological Engineering Society (AEES). I am an Engineer in Training, and I am pursuing a professional engineer's license to practice in the field of water quality, restoration, and watershed management. This year, I am serving as a Graduate Student Assembly representative from BSE department and as a group facilitator for the Environmental Sustainability small group in the Leadership Tech program.

For fun, my hobbies mostly take me outdoors. I enjoying hiking and camping. This past year I have learned to whitewater kayak on the New River, and I am looking forward to Gauley season again this fall. I play many sports as often as possible including tennis, soccer, and my newest interest, ultimate Frisbee.
