SWEET is the research group of Dr. Cully Hession and Dr. Tess Wynn in the Biological Systems Engineering Department at Virginia Tech. Our research focuses on stream and wetland systems.

Research Interests

• Effects of riparian vegetation on stream form and ecological function
• Identification of sediment sources at the watershed scale, with emphasis on quantification of streambank retreat
• Predicting the flow of water and pollutants through wetland systems
• Development and evaluation of best management practices for water quality improvement
• Linking channel morphology to ecosystem health
• Assessing and minimizing the impact of urbanization on stream systems
